Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention. 868-HACK – ($5.99)
Originally created as part of a seven-day game jam, developer Michael Brough's 868-HACK has now been fleshed out into a fully realized roguelike adventure that casts you as a computer hacker infiltrating secured corners of cyberspace.
CrazyLegion – ($2.99)
A new tower defender with slick 3D visuals, this may be the most visually striking entry in its genre in a long while.
Bloodmasque – ($2.99)
Just released about a month ago, Bloodmasque is a new action/RPG from Square Enix that casts you in the role of a bloodthirsty vampire hunter (bloodthirsty because you yourself are a half-vampire). And "you yourself" is more appropriate than usual, too, because one key feature is that Bloodmasque allows you to take a picture of your own face to use as your character's face in the game. Normally $6.99, it's now on sale for less than half of that.
Sine Mora – ($2.99)
Don't be confused by the App Store description of this one saying we gave it a 9/10 rating – that was for the console versions. We adored this shooter on Xbox 360, but thought that this new iOS version became virtually unplayable without buttons to use in controlling the action. Still, its price is half off today. Some of you may still want to judge it for yourselves now that it's a bit more affordable to do so.
An Alien with a Magnet – (Free)
One of the best freebies we've been able to feature in recent memory, An Alien with a Magnet has been on sale in the Store for less than a month and it's already dropped itself down to zero dollars to download. It's a great game for no cost, so get yourself spinning through the stars:
Pinball HD – (Free)
We named this three-table pinball package the best pinballer in the App Store when it was released a few years ago, and it's definitely a great value for zero dollars today. Grab it!
Zombie Highway – (Free)
Feels like it's been a while since we featured a zombie game. Weird, huh? Well, here's a free one for you.
The Room – ($0.99)
A mysterious tactile puzzler meant to unsettle you, The Room from Fireproof Games boasts some of the most realistically rendered objects in a mobile title to date. It also managed to earn Apple’s own Game of the Year Award for 2012 – no small feat. It's got a sequel coming to the Store soon, but in the meanwhile you can check out new, free content that's just been added to the original through the release of the new Version 1.0.2 update – it adds a new Epilogue chapter on to the end of the story.
Daddy Was a Thief – ($1.99)
Version 2.0.0 overhauls a lot of this one, adding all-new gameplay elements like swimming (alongside normal update additions, like new costumes for Daddy).
Combo Crew – ($0.99)
Finally, here's the big one! The makers of Combo Crew announced earlier this week that Capcom's hero Viewtiful Joe would be joining their cast of playable characters, and now the update containing Joe has gone live. He's available for an in-app purchase of $1.99.
But that's not all! Another unexpected guest star has also appeared alongside VJ – it's Lester Knight, the hero of Out of this World (a.k.a. Another World). No one would have ever pegged him for the brawler type, so it's pretty crazy to see him here. Unlike Joe, Lester is available now for free, no extra in-app purchase required.
Videos for both new heroes are below:
That’s it for today! Email subscriptions to the App Store Update are still just one sign-up away, right here:
