Sony: No Word Yet on New Vita Model in the West

A couple of days ago, in an unexpected pre-TGS frenzy of announcements, Sony revealed an all-new model of PS Vita. It's lighter and thinner than the current model, with modest built-in memory, an LCD screen replacing the OLED screen, better battery life, and a cheaper cost. It’ll even come out in six colors, and a new, bigger memory card will launch alongside it.

But this new Vita is only confirmed for Japanese release right now; it's set to come out on October 10th. And much like the PS Vita price cut that was only for Japan (and only recently announced for the west), it’s unclear if and when PS Vita’s new model would come out in the west.

A Sony representative has told IGN that while Sony is “considering every opportunity” in regard to the newly-announced Vita, the company has “nothing to announce for the [Sony Computer Entertainment America] territory.” In other words, it’s not necessarily a slam dunk that this new Vita will make it Stateside (or to Europe and other non-Japanese territories, for that matter).

However, it’s more likely that we’ll simply need to be patient; the Japanese price cut for the PS Vita, for instance, happened over six months before one was announced for the rest of the world.
