Samsung: Next-Gen Galaxy Will Have 64-Bit Processor

One of the most important features of the just announced iPhone 5S is the A7 processor. Apple didn't hesitate to proclaim its newest device is the first smartphone to include a 64-bit chip. But according to a report from Korea Times (via Engadget), Samsung is planning to make the jump to 64-bit with its own handsets, too.

Speaking to a group of fellow executives, Samsung's mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun said upcoming Galaxy smartphones would include 64-bit processing as part of the company's plans to maintain dominance in Eastern markets.

"Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality," said Shin. "Samsung understands that Apple intends to boost its mobile business in China, as well as in Japan, meaning that we should try harder in these countries."

Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
