Last week's Star Wars rumor (well, one of them anyway) pegged Benedict Cumberbatch, of Star Trek Into Darkness fame/infamy, as in the running for an Episode VII role. It's not such a leap, of course, since Star Trek reboot director J.J. Abrams is also helming the new Star Wars. And also Cumberbatch is very British, very talented, and presumably looks good in a Jedi Knight/Moisture Farmer robe.
The actor's publicist denied the rumors, but now Cumberbatch himself is having to answer Star Wars questions while doing press at the Toronto International Film Festival for his new movie The Fifth Estate. And he doesn't seem to be quite denying all the chatter.
“Of course I’d love to do Star Wars and work with J.J. Abrams again because we had such a good time on Star Trek,” he told The Telegraph. “But nobody has been cast and there are no offers out to anyone apart from the regulars who are returning. So that’s that rumour quashed.” The paper then points out that "he adds with a grin" that “we’ll have to wait and see.”
This is also the guy who denied that he was playing Khan. For what it's worth.
Meanwhile, another rumor has surfaced today that feels more far-fetched. A site called Talkbacker.com claims that their sources say Episode VII will be called A New Dawn. And that a 1:1 scale "cross section" of the Millennium Falcon is being built at Pinewood Studios, along with "a power plant set and the famous cantina." Well, we'll see…
