Apple is exploring the possibility of releasing a 6-inch iPhone, according to a new report from the Wall Street Journal. Sources claim that the company has been testing multiple screen sizes for a future smartphone, ranging from 4.8 to 6 inches, all of which would be considerably larger than the 4-inch display that Apple has been using since the introduction of the iPhone 5.
While it is standard practice for companies to test products that will never actually be sold, Apple is reportedly "more willing to move ahead" with the larger screens than it has in the past. The rumor supports previous reports, which stated that Apple has been working on 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch versions of the iPhone.
As competition from the Android platform continues to grow, more and more high-profile devices are hitting around the 6-inch range. Samsung, Sony, and LG have all announced larger smartphones this year, and HTC is expected to do the same. Even Nokia is reportedly working on a Windows Phone phablet of its own.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 5S and the long-rumored, low-cost iPhone 5C at an event next week, although both devices are said to include display sizes that we've seen the company use in the past.
