Sony's IFA press conference in Berlin on Wednesday morning saw the debut of its new flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1, and detachable smartphone camera lenses. But mobile wasn't the only focus, as Sony also announced its first entry into the curved HDTV market. Unlike the OLED units announced by Samsung and LG earlier this year, Sony's 65-inch curved HDTV is an LED set with a comparatively more affordable price point.

Currently available for pre-order, and expected to ship on October 27, the KDL-65S990A curved LED HDTV is available for $4000. According to Sony, the set features eight multi-angle speakers along the HDTV's face, which is intended to create a virtual surround sound setup. The usual assortment of smart TV functions are standard, as is 3D compatibility.
