Game of Thrones can now count a retro-style platformer among the games that carry its name, although, unlike the other games, this one is an unofficial product made by a fan.
The work of a Spanish comic artist by the name of Abel Alves, Game of Thrones: The 8-Bit Game, has been making the rounds this week. It's an old-school platforming game for PC made in Arcade Game Studio that looks a fair bit nicer than actual 8-bit games. It offers players the ability to play as four different characters from the A Song of Ice and Fire series, including Jon Snow and Tyrion Lannister, each with his or her own attack and special ability. There are four levels in total, each based on different parts of the series.
The game is a free download, and might only be available for a limited time depending upon if and when Alves is served with a cease-and-desist. For the time being, the game can be downloaded through Alves' website, where he's also accepting donations.
Simple as it may be, it might very well be better than the the official Game of Thrones games, which haven't lived up to the show or books upon which they are based. The real-time strategy game, A Game of Thrones: Genesis, received a 6.0 in IGN's review, while the RPG, Game of Thrones, received a 4.0.
