Dexter Poll: How Will it All End?

*Spoilers for all of Dexter until this point*

The only thing harder to believe than the fact that Dexter is ending in two weeks is that Dexter is ending in two weeks and it doesn't feel like a show that's ending. While there's certainly a blood-soaked laundry list of reasons why this final season - Season 8 - has been an underwhelming mess, the main gripe seems to be that it's playing things too safe. That it doesn't feel like the writers were willing to shake things up at all - even when they've done so in the past. During non-final seasons.

The series managed to rebound after a silly, wheel-spinning sixth season by finally giving us the whole "Deb finds out Dexter's a killer" storyline in Season 7. And last year also introduced heart-attack Hannah and bumped off LaGuerta in traumatic fashion. But Season 8's done nothing. How is Quinn still alive? And Batista? Remember how, after last season ended, everyone had so many theories about the final run? "Oh, Deb will become the Big Bad!" "Dexter will wind up getting killed on his own table!" "The FBI will start up their manhunt again and finally catch him!" Now, with only two episodes to go, none of that seems likely. In fact, the show already took the whole "Deb kills Dexter" ending off the table early on this summer when she, in fact, tried to kill him. But now the tension between them has vanished, and with it the gravity of the season.

Will we get anything remotely close to the scenario shown in this Season 8 promo pic?

To be fair, there are still two episodes left and things can still get gruesome. But now we're looking at the show possibly having two great final episodes and not a great final season. By the way, I was still optimistic a few weeks ago when I said, in my Dexter video with Eric Goldman, that there were still three episodes left to get things right. Hopefully, after Sunday's episode we won't be saying "Well, they could still get the finale right."

So where are we on the show? Dexter is trying to decide whether or not to skip town with Hannah or kill the Brain Surgeon. The Surgeon just killed Dr. Vogel and now Dexter's having a ton of conversations with imaginary Harry about the right and wrong thing to do. Like he do. Meanwhile, Deb's back on the force and back in Quinn's arms. Masuka has a daughter and Batista still wears hats. There's a Deputy Marshal after Hannah and Deb's old boss Elway has become super bitter over Deb's previous bitterness.

As of now, it seems like the only people set to drop this season are the people who were introduced this season. Which is mostly in line with how other Dexter seasons have operated. But we want to know if y'all still think there's a chance something dastardly and shocking could happen in these last two installments. Will the Dexter-verse get rocked? Let us know what you think...
