Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention. Where's My Water? 2 – (Freemium)
After receiving tons of free, extra levels packs and inspiring two different spin-off games (Where's My Perry? and Where's My Mickey?), Swampy's original water-directing puzzle design is finally getting an official, numbered sequel. You'll have to contend with new gameplay mechanics like shifting gravity and inverted playing fields to fuel our favorite gator's showers this time around:
Joust Legend – ($1.99)
That name got my nostalgia revved up for flapping ostrich fights of '80s arcades, but, alas, Joust Legend has nothing to do with that old Joust. This is a more realistic depiction of the ancient contest between knights mounted on horseback.
Strata – ($0.99)
This unique new puzzler tasks you to match the colors of squares on the ground below by weaving together a rainbow's worth of ribbons above.
Heroes of Loot – ($1.99)
Orange Pixel pushes a party of low-res warriors into a fast-paced, treasure-filled dungeon for some frantic fun. This one looks great:
Pet Peaves Monsters – (Freemium)
The virtual pet genre is back with this robust new interface for interacting with little digital creatures. Feed them, play with them, pit them against one another in fights to the death:
Dead Effect – ($3.99)
Speaking of pet peeves, here's a zombie game! This one takes the undead apocalypse to outer space (and probably will remind you of Dead Space).
Pivvot– (Free)
Free for the first time today is Pivvot, the game that has you tapping your device's screen to send a circle rotating around, avoiding obstacles. It's addictive fun that caught us by pleasant surprise when it debuted last month, and Justin and Marty particularly had fun putting it through its paces:
Jade Ninja – (Free)
When a kunoichi from your ninja clan takes on a mission to steal an ancient scroll, it's up to you to protect her from enemies on your way back home:
Muscle Run – (Free)
Classic muscle cars drive into the spotlight for the App Store's latest racer.
Bounty Hunter: Black Dawn – (Free)
Normally $2.99, this multiplayer FPS with RPG elements (read: iOS version of Borderlands) is a great value for zero dollars down. Grab it!
Plunder! – (Free)
Head out to the high seas and set your sights on collecting as much treasure as you can.
Plunder! HD – (Free)
The iPad version of the above.
That’s it for today! Email subscriptions to the App Store Update are still just one sign-up away, right here:
